The Wolferton Stakes is a listed handicap race run on the fourth day of the Royal Ascot meeting.

The Wolferton Handicap Stakes is one of a crop of new races added to the Royal Ascot meeting in 2002 when the event was extended by a day to mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The Wolferton Handicap Stakes was introduced to the Royal Ascot meeting to give older horses an opportunity to participate in a handicap. The race is open to four-year-old and above horses, and is run over one mile and two furlongs on the Ascot flat racing course.

Wolferton Handicap Stakes Winners

The Wolferton Handicap Stakes is one of the few opportunities older racehorsesl have to contest an event at the Royal Ascot meeting. Notable Wolferton Stakes winners include Championship Point, the 2007 winner who claimed the title at 25-1 odds, and Imperial Pride, who achieved this feat two years earlier.

Richard Hills has the best record of any jockey in the Wolferton Stakes, having taken third place in the inaugural event, followed up with a first placed finish on Imperial Stride in 2005.

Sir Michael Stoute has chalked up a number of impressive results in the Wolferton Handicap Stakes, having won the event once in 2005 and with his horses having finished placed in all but two races in the event’s history. Mark Johnston has the best record in a single race, with his horses finishing 1st and 3rd in the 2006 Wolferton Handicap Stakes.
