The Queen Alexandra Stakes is a Class 2 conditions race, and the final racing event of the Royal Ascot meeting. The 2008 Queen Alexandra Stakes will be run at 5:30pm on Saturday the 24th of June on the Ascot flat racing course.

The Queen Alexandra Stakes was first run in 1834, when it was known simply as the Alexandra Stakes, in memory of Alexandra the Queen, consort of King Edward VII. Prior to 2004 the race distance was two miles and six furlongs, but this was cut back to the present distance when the Ascot racecourse reopened in 2005.

The Queen Alexandra Stakes is open to four-year-old and above thoroughbred racehorses. The race is run over the distance of two miles, five furlongs and 159 yards, making it the longest flat race run in the United Kingdom. The length of the race attracts horses from national hunt racing with experience in the longer race formats. The Queen Alexandra Stakes offers a £60,000 purse.

Queen Alexandra Stakes Winners

There have been several multiple Queen Alexandra Stakes winners in the history of the race. The most recent horse to have won consecutive races was Cover Up who won the 2002 and 2003 events, a feat that Cuff Link achieved in 1994 and 1995. However no horse has come close to the achievements of Brown Jack, who won every Queen Alexandra Stakes between 1929 and 1934.

Kieran Fallon has ridden the most Queen Alexandra Stakes winners in the last decade, winning the race in 1997 before partnering Cover Up in both of his wins. The most recent Queen Alexandra Stakes winner is Jamie Spencer, who won the race on Enjoy the Moment in 2007.

Sir Michael Stoute is the only trainer to have seen more than one of his horses finish the Queen Alexandra Stakes in the last ten years. Stoute partnered with Kieran Fallon for both of Cover Up’s wins, before seeing his horses take second place in the 2005 and 2006 Queen Alexandra Stakes.
