Royal Ascot races - Day 3 Preview
It’s Ladies Day at the Royal Ascot meeting. One of the biggest days in thoroughbred racing sees English high society descend on Ascot Racecourse in silly hats and morning dress to watch a selection of the finest races in the sport, including the coveted Ascot Gold Cup.
2:30 PM: Norfolk Stakes
South Central goes into the Norfolk Stakes as favourite at 5/2. Mick Channon’s Cerito also looks a good bet at 9/2 while Prolific has yet to live up to his name at odds of 5/1.
3:05 PM: Ribblesdale Stakes
Cape Amber and Michita go into the Ribblesdale Stakes as joint favourites, with Frankie Dettori on Changing Skies priced well behind on 11/2. John Gosden will be hoping that Michita adds to his sparse collection of wins at the 2007 Royal Ascot meeting.
3:45 PM: Royal Ascot Gold Cup
One of the biggest Group One races of the season looks almost certain to go to Aidan O’Brien, whose Yeats heads the betting markets at 11/8. French Raider Coastal Path is also a strong contender at 2/1, while Geordieland is priced far longer at 10/1.
4:20 PM: Britannia Stakes
The Britannia Stakes is set to be a classic handicap cavalry charge. Punters are backing Redford at 7/1, with Hurrican Hymnbo at 10/1 and Sir Michael Stoute’s Flawed Genius at 11/1.
4:55 PM: Hampton Court Stakes
Kensington Oval and Faustus are Sir Michael Stoute’s big hopes in the Hampton Court Stakes at prices of 9/2 and 5/1 respectively. Collection is priced 6/1 to win the Hampton Court Stakes.
5:30 PM: King George V Stakes
The final race of the day may deliver an Ascot hat-trick to Sir Michael Stoute with his runner Colony priced 5/1 favourite. Mike Johnston has a good record in the race, making his 7/1 Missioner an attractive bet. Strategic Mission is priced 8/1.
