2008 Royal Ascot - Day 2 in review
The 2008 Royal Ascot meeting went into full swing today, with racing fans and punters treated to six more quality thoroughbred races.
In the first race of the day Aqlaam triumphed in the Jersey Stakes, handsomely rewarding the masses that had backed him for the race. II Ward achieved second place while Dream Eater finished the race in third place.
The Windsor Castle Forest Stakes saw a French raider take top honours as Sabana Perdida put in a brilliant late charge to snatch victory from race favourite Heaven Sent. Grecian Dancer finished third running in the last race of her career.
The day’s feature race saw the best run of the festival, as Duke of Marmalade trounced the field to take a four lap victory in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, handing Aidan O’Brien another feature race win. Phoenix Tower managed second place, while Pipedreamer finished in third.
The cavalry charge also known as the Royal Hunt Cup provided a predictably unpredictable result as 25-1 Mr Aviator took the race for Richard Hannon. Docofthebay finished in second with Royal Power taking third place.
Long Lash provided another long odds surprise in the Queen Mary Stakes, taking a 25-1 victory in a blanket finish that saw Shyryl take second while Connie Mac came in third.
The final race of the day saw 10-1 priced Festivale take the Sandringham Handicap Stakes. Illusion took second place while Habiba took third place.
We recommend William Hill for the best horse race betting experience.
