2009 Coronation Stakes Preview
It’s day four of the 2009 Royal Ascot meeting, which means its time for the top 3 year old fillies in Europe to prove their ability in the group 1 fillies’ highlight of the meeting – the Coronation Stakes.
Today’s feature race will provide a fascinating tussle between Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Again and English 1,000 Guineas winner Ghanaati.
Also in the mix is French 1,000 Guineas winner, Elusive Wave, while 2-year-old champion filly Rainbow View remains a threat despite her disappointing performances to date.
With so many quality runners in the field, the Coronation Cup looks like a tough race to call, and it’s unlikely the final result will mirror the betting markets in quite the same way we saw in the Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday.
There’s no doubting Ghanaati’s class, and she should respond well to the quick Ascot turf. Again did well on heavy turf at the Curragh, so there is some doubt over whether she’ll enjoy her Ascot trip on Thursday.
Punters looking to bet on an improving filly at good odds should take a look at Reggane. Her connections believe she is getting better with every race, and could be the each-way value bet of the race at 10/1
